Published on: October 29, 2024

From architectural relics to art and cooking, there are so many things to do in Ranthambhore when you stay with us at The Oberoi Vanyavilas Wildlife Resort. We offer a wide range of on and offsite experiences designed for you to get a flavour of traditional Rajasthani culture.

A jungle safari from The Oberoi Vanyavilas Wildlife Resort is a must-do when in Ranthambhore. The National Park boasts one of the largest populations of tigers in India, making sightings very common. The lush green landscape provides perfect shelter for the tigers, while watering holes and abundant wildlife tempt them into the open. All tiger safari drives are overseen by the Forest Department of the Government of Rajasthan, who strictly control visitor numbers so as not to disturb the tigers.

One of the more unique things to do in Sawai Madhopur, this half day experience starts a dawn with a ride in a 4x4 into the jungle that neighbours our resort. The 10th century UNESCO World Heritage Site that is Ranthambhore Fort used to be the hunting lodge of the Maharajas of Jaipur. It sits high on a hillside, 700 metres above the surrounding jungle, forests and lakes, and houses a 13th century temple to Lord Ganesha.

Flaming grills, mouthwatering curries and pillow-soft breads are some of the keynotes of Rajasthani cuisine. At The Oberoi Vanyavilas Wildlife Resort, Ranthambhore, we offer special Shikhari (hunter) style grills, cooked and served in an open air setting. Guests can snuggle under blankets by the glowing bonfire and enjoy performances by authentic Rajasthani folk musicians and dancers along with their meal. One of the top things to do in Ranthambhore when you stay with us.

Seating at the Al Fresco Bar & Grill can be booked here.

Should you be keen to learn more about the authentic cuisines we serve you, opt for a Spice Talk experience during your stay. In this hour-long session, our chefs will reveal age-old secrets behind traditional recipes and the spice blends that infuse them - their medicinal properties, fragrances, pairings and much more. Opt for a Cook with the Masters experience and receive a private cooking lesson, followed by a private lunch of Shikhari dishes at our al fresco dining venue.

One of the nicest things to do in Sawai Madhopur is take a romantic jaunt in a traditional camel cart along a tree-lined route near our 5 star hotel in Ranthambhore. In just under an hour, you will pass through lush vegetation, past crops and villagers, taking in the sights, sounds and ambience of Rajasthan village life.

The art of printing fabric using hand carved wooden blocks has been practised in Rajasthan since the time of Maharajas. Intricately carved wooden blocks are dipped in coloured natural dyes and pressed onto fabrics to make designs. With our Traditional Arts & Crafts experience, you can experiment with vegetable, fruit, leaf and spice dyes, or try your hand at katha embroidery, for the perfect, personalised souvenir of your time in Rajasthan. Illustrating with soot is an art specific to the Ranthambhore region of Rajasthan. We are delighted to welcome the globally acclaimed artist Mr. M.D. Parashar to our resort thrice weekly to demonstrate this technique to our guests. Mr Parashar displays his soot paintings of tigers within our gardens as well as offering hand-on demonstrations of soot art. This may be one of the most memorable things to do in Ranthambhore when you visit.
