Since Ranthambhore is synonymous with tigers, it is easy to forget that the nearby Chambal River is home to India’s largest population of the critically endangered Gharial. Our Chambal River Safari is a unique opportunity to sight this fascinating crocodilian in its natural habitat. Characterised by its long thin jaws, which have naturally evolved over time to suit its predominantly fish diet, the Gharial is one of the largest living crocodilians, with males growing up to six metres long. The Chambal River, approximately one hour drive from The Oberoi Vanyavilas, is home to the country's largest population of this species. This experience is led by our in house naturalist in Toyoto Innova to the river banks and onwards in a boat. The above experience can only be availed after the complete end of monsoon.
