As the Narmada River snakes through the 8-kilometre-long gorge known as Marble Rocks, it narrows, gains momentum and plunges into Dhuandhar Falls. The word 'Dhuandhar' is derived from two Hindi words - Dhuan (smoke) and Dhar (flow), meaning a waterfall where one can feel a smoky atmosphere (this smoke illusion is formed by vapour from the cascading waterfall). Standing at 30 metres high, the plunge from Dhuandhar Falls creates a bouncing mass of mist so powerful that its roar can be heard from afar.
